Compelling data published just published in the AAN Journal that losing sleep, even for one night, in young adult men leads to accumulation of tau protein in the blood and brain. A previous study in 2017 showed the sleep deprivation led to excessive levels of beta amyloid. The combination of these abnormal proteins (tau and beta amyloid) in the brain will lead to eventual nerve cell death the mainstay of Alzheimer's Disease.
